Winners awarded at the ETSI endorsed MEC Hackathon

Sophia Antipolis, 31 May 2021: Following the 3rd MEC Hackathon China which took place in November 2020, an Award Ceremony was organized in Beijing last April.


MEC is a key enabler driving the digital transformation of diverse industries, including manufacture, transportation, energy, education, healthcare, etc. Focusing on the commercial use cases of MEC in various industries, the 3rd MEC Hackathon China attracts participants from universities, open-source communities, vertical sectors, and the telecom industry who introduce innovative MEC applications, hence fostering new solutions for large-scale commercial uses.

The 3rd MEC Hackathon China was jointly organized and hosted by Huawei, CCSA, SNAI, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom and was endorsed by ETSI and IMT-2020. The contest explored potential commercial scenarios and business models of MEC to further integrate with 5G technologies in industry.


Among the 13 teams enrolled in the final contest, six were awarded the "Excellence Award", covering multiple industries such as automatic driving, smart manufacturing, and smart smelting.

The "Excellence Award" includes the following use cases:

  • Zhejiang Dahua Technology for 5G smart campus: visualization of campus data, alarm notification and auxiliary judgement.

  • DALU Robotech Technology for 5G + security robot: a combination of MEC and robot technology to support security patrol, epidemic prevention, temperature measurement.

  • Changsha Jimu AI Technology for non-printed character identification: real time identification of billet, steel plate number.

  • XENIRO (Shanghai) and China Mobile for OpenSigma EaaS solution: platform enabling an Equipment as a Service (EaaS) business.
